New signing George O'Callaghan goes straight into the Town squad for Saturday's home game with Colchester United. The Blues are without Jason De Vos and Owen Garvan, while Sylvain Legwinski is likely to be fine after picking up a knock in the FA Cup replay with Chester City.

Liam Lawrence's 71st minute goal consigned the Blues to a 1-0 home defeat against Stoke. The Blues dominated possession for long spells but created too few decent opportunities, the best of which was a shot by Gavin Williams which deflected wide off Gary Roberts.

Loanee Gary Roberts will make his first home start since joining the Blues when Town face Sheffield Wednesday at Portman Road. Roberts made his full debut in last week's last gasp 1-0 defeat at Burnley.

Town have named new boys Alex Bruce and Dan Harding in a 20-man squad for Saturday's season opener at home to Crystal Palace. Also included is midfielder Gavin Williams who has missed most of pre-season with tendinitis and then a groin problem.

Striker Alan Lee has been included in a 29-man Republic of Ireland squad for a friendly with Chile in a fortnight. Lee has previously won eight senior caps.

Central defender Gerard Nash has been told he will not be offered a new deal when his contract expires at the end of the season. Nash, who made one senior appearance for Town as a sub against Burnley two seasons ago, has been beset by almost constant injury problems during his time with the Blues.

Striker Sam Parkin could return to the Town line-up travelling to Millwall on Saturday. The former Swindon man is due to have the stitches in a head wound removed today and the Blues are hopeful he could be back in contention at the Den.

A late Darren Bent goal won the Blues a point from an entertaining 2-2 draw with Sunderland. All the goals came after the break, Marcus Stewart having missed an earlier penalty, Richard Naylor scoring for Town before Stephen Elliott and Carl Robinson put the visitors ahead prior to Bent's strike.

Town dropped to three points behind the top two as top of the table Wigan defeated the Blues 1-0 at the JJB Stadium. The only goal of the game was scored by Nathan Ellington three minutes before the break after Fabian Wilnis had been adjudged to have fouled Jason Roberts in the area.

Striker Shefki Kuqi will have a fitness test ahead of Saturday's trip to Wigan. The Finnish international looked to have little chance of making the top-of-the-table Championship clash due to the gash on his thigh, but is back in training and will be assessed on Friday.
